Frederick Fantastic Oyster Fry and Craft Show, March 31st, 2012 Enjoy Fresh Gulf Coast Oysters along with an Arts and Crafts show!
Frederick's Oyster Fry Date Changed!
Due to the lack of availability of oysters in the Texas Gulf Coast, the date of Frederick's Fantastic Oyster Fry has changed from Saturday, February 25th to Saturday March 31st, which is the last Saturday of March. Conditions in the Gulf coast have been very favorable for the "Red Tide" which has closed much of the oyster beds in Texas and Louisiana. "Red tides" in the Gulf of Mexico are a result of high concentrations of Karenia brevis, a microscopic marine algae that occurs naturally but normally in lower concentrations. Tests indicate that the Red tide is starting to subside, and beds should be open in the near future. The Frederick Chamber of Commerce will be monitoring the situation, and will announce a ticket price for the March 31st event as soon as possible. In the meantime plan to come to Frederick on Sat March 31st for all the free attractions, the craft shows, and of course the wonderful fresh gulf coast oysters! For more information, please visit the Frederick Chamber website at www.frederickokchamber.org, or call 580-335-2126.
