Family Fun Day Planned at Hackberry Flat
Wetlands!
The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation
and the Friends of Hackberry Flat will be hosting a “Family
Fun Day at Hackberry Flat” on Saturday, September 13th .
This free, family oriented event will celebrate the Hackberry
Center as well as the wetlands themselves. Activities will
include Archery and Shotgun Trainings and Demonstrations,
Hackberry Flat Center Tours, Wetland Hay Ride Tours, Birding
Tours, Wetland Classroom activities, Wildlife Exhibits including
Animal Skins and Skulls and Waterfowl Identification. The
first 750 visitors will receive a limited edition Hackberry
Flat sports water bottle! Snacks and drinks will also be
available. Hackberry Flat Wetlands are located a few miles
southeast of Frederick, OK. Hackberry Flat is a nationally
recognized bird habitat managed by the Oklahoma Department
of Wildlife Conservation. The wetlands are a birdwatchers
and hunters paradise, boasting over 200 bird species, including
the rare King Rail, and many other species. It is a critical
stopover for the many birds that migrate via the Central
flyway each year.

Directions to the Hackberry Flat Center
From the intersection of Hwy 5 and Hwy
183 in Frederick, go 1 mile south on 183. Turn east onto
Airport Rd and go three miles, then follow the blacktop
road as it turns south and go 6 miles. Turn east (left)
at the second intersection past the Hackberry Flat cemetery
and drive about 1/2 mile until you reach the Center.
Frederick Arts in Action Festival Still
seeking Artists and Food Vendors.
The Frederick Arts and Humanities Council
continues to take applications for booth spaces for the
Arts 'n Action festival. Artist's booths are open to artists
and craftspeople exhibiting their own original works, and
will be judged for acceptability. The deadline for entries
is Sept 5th, and the show will take place on Sept. 20th
in Frederick OK at the Courthouse Square. In addition the
council is trying something new this year. Food booth spaces
are available for $20.00 and will open to commercial, non-profit
groups and individuals wishing to sell food items. Food
items will be accepted on a first come basis. Also, the
council is looking for local talent to perform on stage

Abernathy T-shirts
Available
The Frederick Chamber of Commerce
is now selling "Abernathy Boys" t-shirts. The shirts, available
in two different designs and colors, feature images of the
Abernathy Boys and the chamber's website address. The front
pocket of each shirt reads: "Frederick OK, Where the Adventure
Begins". On the back of the grey shirt is an image of the
two boys, and reads "Frederick, OK, Home of the Abernathy
Boys". The tan shirt features the Larry Greer watercolor "The
Remarkable Ride" and also reads "Frederick, OK, Home of the
Abernathy Boys". Grey shirts cost $12, and the tan shirt cost
$15. Both shirts are available in youth S, youth M, youth

Coins Available
A special edition collectable
"Abernathy Boys" Coin is now available for coin collectors
and history buffs. The coins are slightly larger than a quarter,
shiny gold, and feature the Abernathy Boys and a Brush automobile,
which the boys drove back from New York City during their
1910 adventure. These coins make a great gift and are a great
souvenir to share with family and friends. Coins are available
for purchase at the Frederick Chamber of Commerce, the Pioneer
Townsite Museum, and the City of Frederick. Coins are only
